Pin Wheel Craftiness

I see so many funny ecards about Pinterest that just crack me up-because they're SO TRUE! Take this one for example...

I mean how true is that statement? ;) So the other day I was feeling rather crafty after exploring Pinterest for a couple hours (can I get an AMEN). I saw these instructions for how-to make pin wheels and thought 'I could do that!' It's really very easy and since I have a new craft space in my office I took a stab immediately.

  1. Basically, to get started you need to cut a 4-inch x 4-inch square out of a piece of paper (I used a 6-inch x 6-inch square since that's the card stock I had).
  2. You should draw diagonal lines across the square to join up the corners. Then, mark the center of the square with a dot, and draw an additional dot at each of the corners. (You can see from the picture above for an example)
  3. Using scissors cut along the diagonal lines. Then, use a hole punch or pin to punch a hole through each of your dots.
  4. Line the dots on the outer edge of your pinwheel up with the dot in the center. Push a tack (like the patterned one I used above) through the dots to hold everything together.

You can attach the pinwheel to a pencil eraser or straw; then it's ready to use! So what do you think? I plan on incorporating these for future parties given how super easy is it to make.

Craft Show SCORE!

Two weeks ago I went to a craft show at the Virginia Beach Convention Center with my lovely husband, who came kicking and screaming, and my in-laws. There were several vendors that I found interesting, but one in particular that I really liked was the whimsical handmade button queen of One Delightful Button.

Not only was this entrepreneur, Kate, super friendly and sweet, but her table display was beautifully decorated with her earrings, necklaces and more! Here are some photos of the earrings I scored:

Here are my new FUN earrings. :)

Her contact information!

Here is a photo of me rocking one of the awesome earrings...

How lovely.

As you can see, Kate is really talented and you won't be disappointed by the accessories she creates. I would totally recommend checking out her shopping and picking up a few things for summer! :)

Here are some other fun things I saw at the craft show:

Solid chocolate

Use mason jars filled with ice & waters to cool dip on top

Repurpose silverware for hangers

DIY Yarn Wreaths

Ever since we started doing this DIY video series at work I have been dying to do my own yarn wreath. I have seen so many variations, including some on Take Heart and don't even get me started on Home Made Crap (graphic below).

The owl one in the middle is amazing!!
So this weekend I'm taking the challenge and doing the yarn wreath. I'm going to Michael's Arts and Crafts right after work so I can get started this evening. The Take Heart post that I linked to has a really simple tutorial, so I think I can manage.....I'm pumped. If it turns out well, I'll be sure to post photos!!

Hope everyone else has a terrific weekend as well. :)

Super Cute Printables

What are Printables you ask? A printable is something that's ready to print from your web browser. They are popping up everywhere on the internet and in all sorts of really cool fashions!

Take a look at my Pinterest friend Shaunna West (I like to think we’re friends because we have similar tastes, plus she’s pretty awesome…just like me!) :) She shared this awesome site, Chicabug, which has tons of really great printables for any occasion you can think of!

What if you want something for your home? I love what Eighteen25 has shared:

Or if you have a cool party you’d like to add a bit of glam to (example Cinco de Mayo), check out the printables that TomKatStudio so graciously shares on Scribd.com:

With the upcoming holidays, get your own creative gift tags from Chicabug!

I don’t have any plans for a holiday party at this time, but should any friends of mine want to throw one (hint, hint) I’m game for lending my skills in the printable department. :)

Projects for the Weekend

I've just gone done traveling to Arizona for a work conference and I'm ready for my weekend to come. I have a lot on my mind in the way of DIY projects. I went to Lowest the other day to try and accomplish this one project that I saw on the Crafty Scrappy Happy blog, but I didn't see any racks that would work. But sadly it didn't work out, none of them were "wowing" me with the character of the one pictured. So I moved on....

That being said, I recently saw this idea on Pinterest (we all know it's my  latest obsession) that I think would be a perfect solution. It meets the criteria of being funky as well as functional, and I'm sure I can score some awesome frames from my go-to place T.J. Maxx. It's from a crafty blogger, MyUncommonSliceofSuburbia.com

So that's on the agenda for this weekend. I've already assembled a shopping list, which I'm sure Ryan will be pumped for; this girl just returned home & she's ready to get moving! Hope this energy lasts for all the projects I have in mind for the weekend. LOL :)
